Welcome

The Captain and Mate Association, or CMA, was recently formed as a means of bringing the many hundreds of USCG licensed Captains and Mates in the Florida Keys and surrounding areas together. Its purpose is primarily to provide a way for all of these professionals to communicate with each other, to be aware of important industry and area developments, to enable continued education and help to obtain important benefits such as health care and drug testing at reduced costs. Until now, there has been no single organization which served all of the areas captains and mates, regardless of their particular industry niche, whether it be fishing charters, vessel delivery, inspection, appraisals or any of the other specialties present in the profession.

The association, which is founded and managed by USCG captains, seeks to bring all the Captains and Mates in the area together as members, to maintain the highest quality of professional standards for licensed mariners, to form a cooperative liaison with the USCG , and other organizations, associations and government agencies, to represent the membership in legislative and regulatory matters, to encourage public understanding of the profession and establish a method of quickly communicating with this vast and regionally diverse group.

Another important service that the organization will provide will be a means of Keys employers and Boat Operatives to fill vacant jobs. The website will enable both to list their needs, which will be immensely helpful to all concerned. Additionally, due to the website, the general public will be able to view an area containing listings of captains and crew and the services they offer, and/or links to their own websites. We are aiming to obtain sponsorship or a mutual relationship with various businesses and organizations in the Florida Keys to provide discounts and services for an otherwise forgotten entity. Feel free to contact us with any comments or questions.

Mission Statement

CMA was organized in June 2007 to promote professional development and business opportunities for its members.
Marine safety and environmental issues are CMA's main concern, as well as providing a liaison between professionals in the  marine industry and the buisiness community.
